City Memory—Huguo Antiques Market

Huguo Antiques Market is the only surviving old-fashioned antiques market in the urban area of Kunming. After a long period of development, it has formed a weekends market. Every weekend, around 9 o'clock in the morning, there will be stalls in the market.

The whole architectural style of the antique market is the imitation of the Qing Dynasty. The red lacquered wooden doors and windows, the mural-patterned columns and the golden tile roof all exude a retro atmosphere.

The whole building has three floors with quite complicated stairs. Such a staircase does not affect the interest of visitors, but instead adds the characteristics of the antique market. All the stairs in the building are not connected. After going to the second floor of the courtyard, you have to walk up a narrow winding stairs from a corner of the second floor then you can get to the third floor.

In here you may not know the exact value of each item, but the more interesting thing is that you can hear a lot of history from local people. Or a history about the item they sell. If you have enough time stay at Kunming, and you are interested in the local history and culture, Huguo Antique Market is a good place to go. It is a good place to know the city.
