Qiexi Village

Qiexi Village (formerly named Xiaoshao Village) is 10 km to the northeast of Goujie Town of Yiliang County. The village is 1,960 meters above the sea level with magnificent natural scenery and forests. Nearly 80 percent of the villagers belong to the Yi ethnic minority.

A big variety of edible wild mushrooms flourish in the dense forests around the village. These include popular varieties such as: Sparassis crispa (ɡānbɑjūn), Russula virescens (qīnɡtóujūn), Collybia albuminosa (jīzōnɡjūn), Lactarius hatsudake (hónɡzhīrǔɡū) and Boletaceae (niúɡānjūn) etc, among which the most famous is Sparassis crispa. Qiexi ranks first in Yunnan Province for a yearly output of Sparassis crispa of between 6 and 8 tons.

Qiexi Village is an excellent destination for tourists visiting Kunming in the summer. The mountains are let out on contract to families of the village who in return protect the forests. Local families are able to provide accommodation to visitors who can follow their hosts when they forage for mushrooms in the mountains and pick their own under expert advice! This provides visitors with a really good and useful eco tour.
