Temples in Kunming

Kunming is a city which has a long-established historical and cultural, has many ancient temples and old buildings. Those ancient temple courtyards have a quiet and elegant environment. Sit in the courtyards and enjoy the autumn scenery and feel the calmness and comfort.

 

Xishan Forest Park

Xishan Forest Park is a must-go scenic area in Kunming. There are many temples and ancient buildings in Xishan Forest Park, it was an important Buddhist shrine in ancient times.

Huating Temple, Taihua Temple and Sanqingge is the main threee religious buildings, they all have their own particular architectural style. Huating Temple is magnificent, Taihua Temple is quaint, Sanqingge is  antique. The carving and painting which has on the hall to decorated the whole building. In the courtyards lush green plants makes wonderful view for each season.

 

 

In this season, the ancient trees in the temple courtyard turning to golden, flowers which not afraid cold are swaying and blooming under the tree. The sound of wooden fish is in the ear, and the bell of the bell tower is swinging; visitors can stay in the temple or the courtyard feel the tranquility monment.

 

Golden Temple Park

The autumn of the Golden Temple Park has the most charm. The  golden palace, the bell tower, and the temple built against the mountain are hidden by the lush old trees. The sun shines through the leaves and shines on the golden palace, which made the autumn sense stronger.

 

The walls of the Taihe Palace are mottled to tell visitors the long history of its. The two ancient Lagerstroemia trees in the yard planted in the Ming Dynasty are withered, in this season only the old tree branches there become a picture that only belong to the autumn.

Walking through the ancient palace hall and strolling in the foothills, the  maple trees have gradually faded, but the camellia blossoms are in full bloom, forming a beautiful watercolor painting.

 

Tanhua Temple

Tanhua Temple was built during the Chongzhen year (1628-1644) Ming Dynasty , and then based on Tanhua Temple, it was expanded into a park resembling a classical traditional Chinese style garden.

The park has divided into three area, the front area is based on the Tanhua Temple then build traditional Chinese style buildings in the courtyard. The middle area can be described as a large garden. There are many different flowers such as peony, azalea, camellia and begonia sakura. As for the back area, there is a tower called Ruiying, the tower is 48.8 meters high, has seven floors.

 

The peony flower exhibition in spring and the chrysanthemum exhibition in autumn are the most famous flower exhibitions in local.

 

Yuantong Temple

Yuantong Temple in the Yuantong Street, downtown of Kunming. It is one wzof the oldest buddhist temple in Kunminng with a history of more than 1200 years and also the biggest buddist temple in Kunming city. Yuantong Temple was built since Nanzhao times Tang Dynasty, first name was Butuoluo Temple.

Surrounded by verdant plants and a body of water, Yuantong Temple is renowned as one of the “eight magnificent scenes” in Kunming.

 

Panlong Temple

Panlong Temple is one of the most prosperous temples in Kunming. It is located in Panlong Hill, Jinning District, on the east bank of Dianchi Lake, about 40 kilometers from Kunming urban area.

Camellia planted in the Yuan Dynasty, Magnolia planted in the Ming Dynasty, Red Plum planted in the Ming Dynasty, and Yingui planted in the Qing Dynasty, these ancient trees are the main features of the Panlong Temple. After hundreds of years, they are still blooming year by year, attracting numerous flower viewers.

 

Caoxi Buddhist Temple

Enjoying a history of more than 800 years, Caoxi Temple is located in Wenquan Town (Hotspring) of Anning City, 30 kilometers west Kunming.

 

As a Buddhist architecture complex built in the Dali Kingdom Period (938-1253) in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the Temple is among the few in China the Majestic Hall of which is designed in the wooden structure. Bhodisattva Avalokitesvara, Bhodisattva Samantabhadra  and Bhodisattva Manjushri enshrined in the Hall are at the same time very rare Buddhist figures in the Song Dynasty style.
