Macbeth is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. It is thought to have been first performed in 1606. It dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake.
The story of Macbeth occurred in Scotland, which was in war for years. A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the King of Scotland one day. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and become the King. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler.
Macbeth is the first Shakespeare’s work performed by the British TNT Theatre Company. It is already performed in 31 countries, 268 cities since the first performs in 2000. The TNT Theatre interprets Shakespeare’s famous drama in an absolutely bold way, use a lot of physical movements, soundtracks and vivid interpretation so that have been well received by the critics and the audience. Because of Macbeth is the shortest tragedy of Shakespeare, the TNT Theatre has almost no abridgement of the original script.The sound of the horror film with accordion and saxophone accompaniment evoke the horrible atmosphere of the original, the audience just like watching a movie.
The TNT Theatre founded in 1980, it is not only famous in the UK, but also famous in Germany, France, Japan and Russia.
Paul Stebbings, the artistic director of TNT Theatre, has won numerous awards, including awards at the Munich Biennale, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Frankfurt Festival. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to promoting British theatre and furthering British cultural interests in Asia.
