Located in the east section of Tuodong Road of Kunming City, the Kunming Municipal Museum covering an area of 20,000 square meters is a local comprehensive museum. Completed and opened on Sept. 29, 1997, the museum has an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters, consisting of five fixed exhibition halls and one flexible exhibition hall. The five fixed exhibition halls are:

 

1. Exhibition of Dinosaur Fossils, with material object specimen, demonstrates the evolution and extinction of dinosaurs. 
2. Exhibition of Bronze Culture in Dianchi Lake Area: Displaying the brilliant bronze culture of Dianchi Lake area from the Spring-Autumn period to Western Han Dynasty.
3. Dicang Temple Classics Exhibition: Displaying the classics of Dicang Temple which is a key protection unit of the state and dubbed as “the best of Middle Yunnan arts”.
4. Exhibition of the Historical and Cultural City of Kunming: Displayed in the two exhibition halls of History and New Look, the exhibition displays the time-honored historical culture, glorious revolutionary tradition, picturesque natural landscape and the great achievement made since the reform and opening up.
5.Various temporary exhibitions are held in the flexible exhibition hall. The exhibitions with comparatively great influences are: Exhibition of the Articles Left behind by Mao Zedong, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of Li Qi, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of the Local Celebrities of Yunnan, and Women Dresses and Adornments Exhibition of the Ethnical Minorities of Yunnan etc.

Now, Kunming Municipal Museum has become a center for tourists to understand Kunming and has been selected as a patriotism education base of provincial and municipal levels.
